In cooperation with Regional School offices and the territorial school development taskforce teams some schools have been identified among those with professional expertise in the field of language teaching. Such institutions, in accordance with the Action Plan 2004-2006 “Promoting language teaching and linguistic diversity” and with the more recent working paper (Sept. 2007) of the European Commission Report on the implementation of the Action Plan2004-2006 “Promoting language teaching and linguistic diversity” have established a thematic network as a catalyst for convergence of all strategic territorial resources in order to promote multilingualism particularly in three key areas:

  • Life-Long Language  Learning;

  • better language teaching;

  • building a language friendly environment for the supply and take-up of language learning.

The schools constituting the network acknowledge their commitment to undertake actions which are targeted at:

  • capitalising on linguistic diversity through initiatives of European cooperation that may raise awareness in schools and in  local communities toward the value of languages including smaller European languages, regional, minority and migrant community languages;

  • creating friendly environments for European and non European languages by  identifying and capitalizing on existing skills and resources and on language diversity and by stimulating a demand for the provision of language learning facilities;

  • assessing the impact that transnational cooperation may have on the diversification and empowerment of domestic and local linguistic education policies  in the view of life-long language learning, non-formal and informal learning  addressed to a broader range of learners alongside the path of formal education;

  • building knowledge and developing successful practice on this specific theme through partnership working, mainstreaming, and the sharing of experiences by all the school participating in the network carried out through ICT communication, a dedicated web site, common initiatives within transnational cooperation projects in order to promote European language-friendly communities.

With a view to  enhance the effectiveness of the European dimension in education, network cooperation, of which this web site  is part, allows the sharing of all innovative strategies devised by the schools, the monitoring of all the implemented initiatives, the dissemination of best practice and thereof the delivery of compensatory actions, locally, so to make the European dimension the perfect mindset for cooperation and active commitment for all the education establishments.
